Frequently asked questions
Common questions about how we can support your child's mathematical journey.
How do your classes differ from traditional tutoring? + −
Myko Education focuses on understanding over memorisation. We use collaborative learning in small groups, EdTech tools, and a curriculum that promotes relational understanding. Rather than rote learning, students develop enduring and transferable skills that prepare them for real-world problem solving.
Do you offer online or in-person classes? + −
Our classrooms are equipped to hold online lessons at live stream standards. We offer hybrid classrooms that seamlessly blend in-person and online learning. Our modern EdTech infrastructure ensures students can participate effectively whether they're physically present or joining remotely, maintaining the same high-quality learning experience.
But, we prefer to see our students in person, so we encourage you to be present for all lessons.
The only exception is that IB lessons are solely online.
What is relational understanding? + −
Relational understanding means students grasp the "why" behind mathematical concepts, not just the "how." They can see connections between ideas, adapt procedures to new situations, and explain their reasoning. This deep understanding is transferable to real-world problem solving.
How do you handle different learning paces? + −
We do it in a two tiered manner. Through your child current level, we will suggest the class that best fits their level. in addition, our authentically differentiated curriculum adapts to each student's needs while maintaining the same learning outcomes. Through small group work, personalised feedback, and varied activities, we ensure every learner is appropriately challenged and supported.
Do you accept students who are behind or struggling? + −
Absolutely. Our clarity-first approach rebuilds foundations and confidence progressively. We do not select students to take in to our centre as we focus on value adding to the students' abilities and competency.
Do you provide homework? + −
Yes. Weekly homework, topic revision tasks and exam-type questions are provided for all students. In addition, we mark and assess students' work in order to know their gaps.
How do you track progress? + −
We do it through a few avenues:
- Ongoing diagnostic checks
- Topic assessments
- Class observations
- Parent consultations upon request
How can I learn more about your programmes? + −
We'd love to discuss how Myko can support your child's mathematical journey. Contact us to schedule an assessment or to learn more about our approach.
What programmes does Myko Education offer? + −
We offer:
- Year 1–Year 10 Mathematics (aligned with the Australian/Victorian Curriculum)
- VCE Mathematical Methods
- VCE Specialist Mathematics
- IB Mathematics: Analysis & Approaches (HL/SL) – online only
How does the IB programme work for students taking the IB exam in Australia? + −
IB AA HL/SL classes are conducted online only, and students from Australia share the same IB sessions as Singapore students.
This gives students a global cohort and access to specialist IB teachers.
How many students are in each class? + −
Our classes have around 5 students and up to 8 students for our master teachers to ensure deep understanding and personalised attention.
Are your teachers familiar with VCE requirements? + −
Yes. Our VCE educators are experienced in:
- SAC-style questions
- Modelling tasks
- CAS calculator techniques
- VCAA exam expectations
Is IB HL too hard? + −
IB HL is demanding, but with structured practice, clear feedback, and targeted support on proofs and modelling, many students excel. We recommend an early diagnostic assessment to identify strengths and gaps, then create a tailored plan focused on building confidence and mastery.
What is included in the onboarding session? + −
All new students undergo a paid onboarding session that includes:
- Diagnostic assessment
- Skills and conceptual profiling
- A personalised learning plan and recommended class placement
Do you support high-performing or accelerated students? + −
Yes. Extension pathways are available for advanced learners preparing early for Methods or Specialist.
What is your payment policy? + −
Payments on a termly basis secure the class placement and are non-refundable.
Classes must be paid by the due date to confirm the reserved slot.
